Military robots facts and descriptions
Originally designed for surveillance and used heavily in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Predator is slightly smaller than a civillian plane, and measures at about 27 feet long with a wingspan of more than 48 feet. The aircraft, made by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, cruises at a speed of 70 knots. This robot, pictured above, is the best example of high-powered, unmanned robotics systems. It is a nearly silent system, capable of taking off, refueling and landing on it's own. The predator is capable of identifying targets on it's own and firing missiles from above.
The Raven can be carried in a backpack and is launched into the air by hand when thrown, allowing soldiers to look at video from around a corner or over a nearby hill. Weighing in at about 4 pounds and less than a meter long, the Raven can fly for up to 80 minutes and reach a speed of 52 knots. This robot looks much like a model toy airplane, but is capable of feats far more deadly than any toy is capable. The Raven is manufactured by Aeroenvironment, the plane was first deployed in 2004.

The SWORDS robot is best described as a "gun on wheels." With the capability to fire weapons at targets with the touch of a button on a remote control, the SWORDS robot is both helpful, but impractical. While it is widely used throughout the world, the SWORDS robot is noisy, heavy and expensive, therefore losing a unit of this robot is very costly. A perk of this unit is that it has the capability to switch guns. The operator can easily swap guns from soldiers to this unit in a matter of seconds. The SWORD unit can be outfitted with any gun that can be carried by a military unit, anything from handguns to rocket launchers, this robotics system is very advanced and versatile when it comes to performing in the field.
